Losing only twice in a long 20-meet season, Blanka Vlašić was a clear choice for the honor of Track & Field News Women’s Athlete Of The Year. The 26-year-old Croatian became the first high jump winner since Heike Henkel in ’91.

Vlašić received 22 of 30 votes for No. 1 as she easily outpointed the field. Scores for the first 10 of 18 who received votes:
