NOTE ON THE NEWS - WANJIRU CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

Reigning Olympic and World Marathon Majors champion, Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya, has been arrested on attempted murder charges, news services and Kenyan news outlets are reporting. According to Agence France-Presse, Wanjiru was arraigned in court on Thursday on charges of attempting to kill his wife and watchman stemming from in incident on 29-Dec.

Wanjiru has denied the charges, which included possession of an automatic weapon, and is out on bail. He will face trial in February, just two months before he is scheduled to compete in the Flora London Marathon.
